“We have a dream, a vision and a goal to solve the world’s biggest problem – “Energy provision”. Knowing fully well that we are living in a time where electricity is a much-needed resource and waste is something that may never get extinct we have decided to use this waste to generate energy. It begins with the collection of waste which will be separated into biodegradable, non-biodegradable, flammable and non-flammable wastes. The non-flammable biodegradable wastes are dried, crushed and sold out for the purpose of manure and fertilizer. The non-biodegradable wastes that are not flammable are recycled while the biodegradable and non-biodegradable wastes that are flammable are sent into the power generating chamber which uses the principle of gas turbine to generate electricity. “

    Team E-Conservers

    Corona Secondary School, Agbara.
FAYOBOMI OLUSOLA-FALODUN, ITOSE OMOHKODION, FREDA UCHEBENU and NDIDIAMAKA ANUSIONWU.

“About 20 to 50 million metric tons of e-waste are disposed worldwide every year. Currently, only about 12.5 percent of that waste is recycled according to the EPA. The rest of the waste get dumped into landfills which harm the soil and make it barren. It feels as if electronics were made to be thrown out after some time right? Like there is no use of the old version, as technology is continuously improving? With lack of knowledge on how to dispose of these “out-of-date” electronics, we unknowingly cause great harm to our environment and ourselves. The effects of improper disposal of this e-waste on the environment are little known to many, however, these impacts pose very real threats and dangers to the global environment at large, thus seeming like a battle to tackle with the growing waste problem. This is where the E-conservers come in. With our service, we will be able to raise awareness and provide possible solutions to the problem of improper disposal and help spur action, both to protect the environment and to stop wasting resources. What better way to solve a problem than to understand the cause of it? We stand by our motto ‘Change’. “

“The Powerwell is a device that collects water from rain and water bodies and purifies it to dispense 80 gallons of drinking water a day. When we set out to make the Powerwell our first step was figuring out how to make it environmentally friendly and with the finished design we feel we have accomplished that using solar power. Many devices that have attempted to solve this problem are large and complicated so with the Powerwell we wanted to head in a different direction. We made it small and collapsible, only using basic concepts to fuel the machines processes so that the device doesn't break down or disturb locals. On top of this, replacement parts for a majority of the device can be found along with it (like the filters) or around the area (like the casing, funnel, etc). “
